Here’s What it Really Takes to Look Good on TV

The difference between how I look on TV and how I look when I travel in real life?

It’s big, and I have Christina to thank for that.
I’ve been working with her for years. She’s not only in charge of my clothes, but my hair and makeup too. It’s a pretty big feat, especially on days when I’m doing anything in or near the water. She needs to make sure my makeup stays on, just in case I get wet. Otherwise, it’s a full two hours before we can resume shooting. I know! It’s not fair– Andrew Zimmern can get dunked and not need an outlet to plug in his blowdryer.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to look good on TV.

We get started at 6am for an 8am call-time. I know it doesn’t look like I’m wearing a whole lot of makeup, but it really does take awhile. Maybe that also has something to do with us talking and laughing constantly. Who knows!

If you like these behind-the-scenes videos, here’s another look at Christina on the set. She’s a rockstar and I’m so lucky to have her as my secret weapon. Also, a list of my favorite makeup/self-care items for travel.

  1. I noticed Samantha drinking her morning coffee! (I’m assuming that’s what that was!) did you end up getting your egg sandwich?! Oh, and blue eyeshadow was my first makeup purchase, too! They say it’s great for green eyes…I’m not so sure it helps mine! ????
