This week marks one year since Hurricane Helene caused widespread damage throughout Asheville and its surrounding areas, including the Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic drive connecting Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks, and one of the nation's most popular scenic routes for fall foliage.

But we've heard some exciting news!

The National Park Service announced completion of two landslide repair projects, one of which reopened a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway!

The good news arrives just in time for fall and to welcome leaf peepers from around the country (and the world!) to the Blue Ridge Mountains and Asheville. So if you haven't planned your fall travels, I hope you will consider bringing much-needed support to this wonderful community and stunning area.

One of the things I really wanted to do when I came up with “Places to Love” was to shift the focus from things to people. Because what truly makes any destination special is the people who live there and call it home.

Throughout my travels, one type of person I met time and time again is what I like to call a Maker.
