The last few years with travel have felt like a whirlwind. First we couldn’t go…
Samantha reveals how to snag cheap airfare
One of my most frequently asked questions: How does one score cheap airfare?
I recently sat down with The Street to talk about my new show, Places to Love. We discussed the future of travel TV, what millennial travelers do better than anyone else, plus how to score cheap airfare.
When it comes to finding inexpensive flights, I am a big fan of alerts. Until I get my airfare crystal ball, it’s what I’ll continue to depend on. One of the best tools I use is Airfare Watchdog. Created travel journalist George Hobica, they painstakingly track pricing for any destination you can dream of. Simply sign up for price alerts on your desired destination and you’ll stay on top of pricing.
I should also mention that in general, fall until mid-December tends to be a great time to score cheap tickets. Think about it. Kids are back in school, most people are saving up for the holidays or gearing up for big holiday trips. Consider the week after Labor Day, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the week after New Year’s to plan your next big trip. Your wallet will thank you!

I’m looking for airfare from Chicago to Paris and return from Bordeaux to Chicago in November 2018. When do the fares open up for dates that far in advance? Any tips when booking open jaw tickets in Europe ?(our most commonly booked ticket type.)
There are no flights from Bordeaux to the states. BOD to CDG to states.
I have always purchased on a Tuesday night. For some reason, tickets are cheaper than even on Tuesday day
I love the Hopper app on my iPhone. Not only does it provide alerts for flights I’m interested in, but gives me historical advice on if the price will go up or down and about when to buy or wait.
Yes, I love hopper!
I’m with you on Hopper… I combine that app with google flights to find the best deals. 🙂
I use websites http://www.hacktheflight.net and http://www.secretflying.com which give you alerts via Facebook when cheap fares and packages are released. The Travel Pirates app is great for package deals both within the USA as well as overseas destinations.
I like to set travel alerts on all the major websites like kayak, Priceline and Skyscanner. The best deals are Priceline express deals- this deal is a flight on a major airline but you don’t know the details till after you’ve booked. If you need more details before booking they typically have great deals when they release these express deals! Another great site is https://escapehouston.com
Right now they service Houston, Dallas, Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York and if you subscribe they will alert you of any sales on flights from your airport of choice! They alerted me of a sale and I went directly and booked and saved 100’s of dollars and they do all the work for you!
Hopper rules!
La Compagnie Airline is a Boutique teeny tiny Airline that flies from Newark, NJ, USA to Paris in ALL BUSINESS CLASS Airbus A321 twice a day (with exceptions) for the amazing sum of $750.00 USD each way. What? $1500.00 RT BUSINESS CLASS airfare? Flown it three times, and give it 5 stars every time! Includes Private Sky Lounge in N.J. and CDG, plus priority- express disembarking in Paris. Lie Flat seats, everything you expect in Business Class seating, including outstanding meals! I won’t cross the Atlantic any other way!
Love Jetradar and if I’m stuck at the airport, LoungeBuddy.
I subscribe to Scott’s Cheap Flights. They have domestic and international flights. Free and paid subscriptions.
