The best gear for the traveling dad

What do you give the guy who helped you with all that math homework, taught you to ride a two-wheeler, and stayed up fuming in the living room that time you stayed out past curfew (which you hated at the time, but as an adult, totally understand)? Don’t ask him—he’ll say, “I don’t need anything.” Maybe not, but let’s be honest: all dads like gear. Here’s some of my favorite travel gear for your number one guy.

Soccer Gear with Style

Most guys I know like traveling with a cap, specifically one repping their favorite sports team. It’s an instant conversation starter! If your pops or hubby is into soccer, chances are he’s lacking in stylish club apparel department. Fix that with Talisman & Co., founded by former professional soccer player, Dustin Branan. Talisman creates quality caps and tees that look great on and off the pitch…in the stands, on the street, in the office, at the pub, or wherever Dad represents his club.

Wireless, noise-cancelling, over-the-ear headphones

There’s no way to politely tell the guy sitting next to you on that cross-country flight, “I’m not interested in hearing your life story, Scott.” Help dad say it all without saying a word with these wireless, noise-cancelling, over-the-ear headphones. They’re stylish, functional, and send a subtle message (even if you’re literally not listening to anything).

BirchboxMan

Dad deserves self-care goodies just as much as mom, but let’s face it, finding a good moisturizer isn’t at the top of his list of priorities. Help him help himself with a subscription to BirchboxMan. This beloved subscription service sends samples of high-end toiletries, for $10 a month. Best part? Sizes are often big enough to last through a long weekend trip (or more!), but small enough that they can go into your carry-on. Brilliant!

A grown-up jump rope

As a frequent flyer, it’s not always easy to keep up on your fitness routine. That’s where a great jump rope comes into play. They’re lightweight, easy to pack and make for an effective workout. Seriously—when was the last time you tried? It’s a lot harder than you remember!

Roku Streaming Stick+ or Amazon Fire Stick

Give dad the gift of TV binge-watching with a streaming stick. Simply plug the USB stick into your hotel TV, hook up to WiFi and voila! Sons of Anarchy or Great British Bake-off (no judgement) in the comfort of your hotel.

And speaking of Gear…

A nice gift would be to tell your dad (or husband) about Jon Glaser Loves Gear. Comedian, and former writer for Conan, Glaser tests all kinds of gear in a sort of mockumentary-but the gear is real. Finally, a show for gear heads!

Dads– tell us: What’s your favorite travel gear? Share in the comments!
