Anticipating Autumn

It’s coming…

Can you feel it? A few nights ago it was cool enough for the first time in months to finally silence the loud generating hum of air conditioning and open up all the windows for fresh air. I woke up early in the morning and felt something that brought a smile to my face before my eyes were even open. A cool breeze. The breeze glides through the room like long stretches of silk fabric and at the tail end of it I can detect just a hint, a tease of what’s soon to come…Autumn.

My eyes still closed, the preview begins to run through my head. Foliage bound road trips that last the whole day, side of the road farm stands offering warm apple cider and sugary homemade doughnuts. Pumpkins will be picked up and admired like babies and there will be the fanciful arranging of oddly shaped gourds over my fireplace that I will fuss with and change weekly through to the holiday season. And candy corn, lots and lots of candy corn

Yep, it’s coming and it’s my favorite time of year.

What are you most looking forward to this fall?  Tell us in the comments below.

  1. I love Autumn, also, and get very melancholy this time of year; I am currently anticipating a tropical storm/hurricane rather than fall foliage.

I’ve lived in the very deep South for 35+ years now, and still desperately miss New England in the fall. I want an apple cider doughnut!

  2. I can not wait for nights cold enough for a fire in the fireplace with fuzzy socks and a glass of red wine!

  3. Hey Sam, Cherished memories of my childhood are bound in Autumn ribbons. Blazing colors, wood smoke scented air, warm spiced beverages & savory dishes shared with loved ones. Temperatures fall but warmth radiates from friendly smiles and close embraces. It is a magical time of year when the subtle sparkle of nature isn’t overshadowed by the sun’s glare.

  4. Hi, Samantha,

I love summer but I adore fall even more. I like the first crisp days of early autumn, when it’s still warm but the humidity goes away and one can finally turn off the air conditioning. I love visiting upstate New York and Canada to see the leaves change color. Also, fall means the theater season finally kicks into gear and there are lots of great new shows to see in New York City. My favorite time of year! I do not care much for winter, so I always plan a winter getaway to somewhere warm like Mexico for a couple of weeks, usually in February when I’m so tired of the cold. I wish it could be pleasant and fall-like weather year round in NYC, but that’s not going to happen. 🙂

  5. Fall is my all time favorite season! Growing up in San Diego I missed out on this, but now in North Idaho…all I can say is Wow!!

Colors, cool breezes, sun, water, mountains, trees, peace and quiet to be one with nature. Bike rides, hiking, fishing, swimming, kayaking & then a glass of wine as I enjoy the mountainous, glistening lake view. To die for!

  6. My husband and I were just talking about bringing out the crock pot for stews, pot roasts and soups! I live in the Catskills and the leaves are brilliant now.

I had to visit Queens this weekend and brought a gallon of fresh apple cider to my daughter and her boyfriend… It was like I brought them liquid gold…

Congrats on your news, btw! I am a big fan of your shows…

  7. Well, I just did 7 festivals this early fall, day trips near Branson, AND winning the fall drives contest sponsored by Peter Greenberg.:-) Next, I will be holiday baking, starting with pumpkin recipes this weekend until Thanksgiving. Cinnamon, nutmeg, etc…all those holiday aromas. mmm…
