4 Amazing Adventures in Canyon Point, Utah
Today I’m dreaming of Canyon Point, Utah.
With some of the most dramatic and rugged landscapes in the U.S., Canyon Point offers adventurers hiking, rock climbing, canyoneering and biking. Stay at the incredible Amangiri Resort which is tucked away into a valley near the Grand Staircase. It magically blends into the stunning desert landscape.
For the outdoor adventurer, you’ll have plenty to do. The resort is surrounded by the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Grand Staircase – Escalante, and Bryce and Zion National Parks. Here are a few things to keep you busy:
Hike the Hoodoo Trail
This 3.5 mile circuit hike takes you by numerous free-standing sandstone towers, called hoodoos, as well as a narrow slick rock pass, ancient sand dunes, carved steps and other geological oddities. Home for centuries to the native Navajo and Hopi tribes, you can explore the region with expert archaeologists, geologists and naturalists on guided hikes or horseback rides.
Full Moon Yoga…Or a Solar Eclipse Party
Like to finish the day in a peaceful setting with a calming yoga experience? From time-to-time Amangiri offers Full Moon Yoga. A short 30-minute hike leads to an amazing platform of Entrada sandstone on the 165-million year old mesa that surrounds the resort. Here you’ll have the yoga class to remember lit by the full moon in a stunning outdoor theater featuring nature in all its glory. Also, when the calendar of the stars sends along a solar eclipse, you can attend a party to view it. Even when there’s not a big event, the desert landscape provides a great backdrop for star gazing of all types.
Kayaking and Exploring Lake Powell
Being in the middle of the desert makes you crave the water. And lucky for you, Canyon Point is near Lake Powell. The lake provides access to some really amazing landscapes and rocky points along the Colorado Plateau. Lake Powell was named for Civil War veteran and one-armed explorer John Wesley Powell, who led the first successful scientific expedition down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. You might want to make multiple trips to enjoy all this area has to offer. Enjoy the turquoise waters by highspeed motorboat touring the lake’s nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline, or relax and enjoy some quiet beach time in one of the many hidden away bays.
Photo Workshops
With all the amazing, beautiful landscape surrounding you, the pressure is on to take the best photos you can. While you may know a thing or two about photography, its a good idea to book a photo tour with a local expert who will show you all the tricks to capturing that perfect photo.
Have you been to this incredible outdoor theater? Share you favorite day trips or places to take in the scenery!
