Asheville: A Perfect Romantic Destination

Asheville makes for the perfect romantic destination for creative couples.

From adult coloring books to DIY crafts sold on Etsy, a lot of people are waking up to the idea of having not only an inner child, but inner crafter, too. In Asheville, you can build an entire weekend (hey, or a week!) around getting in touch with your creative side.

But before we even dig in, let me remind you that Valentine’s Day is a busy holiday with inflated prices. A good idea is to give this gift of travel on Valentine’s Day, but go when it’s more convenient and cheap.

Where to Go

Asheville, North Carolina

A must-visit destination with a stunning mountain location, exciting culinary scene and the Biltmore Mansion (it’s as close to Downton Abbey as we get in the states!). But its rich history in the arts and crafts are what make it an inspiring destination for anyone who wants to get a little crafty.

What to Do

Craft_lover_destinations_River-Arts-District

Head over to The River Arts District: a pocket of old, abandoned factories has been resurrected into a vibrant neighborhood– home to artists studios and galleries (many open to the public!). Here’s a local look at how to spend a day or two in this fun neighborhood. Trust me, if you’re bored, you’re doing it wrong!

Where to get Creative

Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts

Craft Lover Destination - Asheville NC

Reenact the scene from Ghost at this ceramics school, gallery and working studio. It’s a beautiful spot that attracts serious artists from all around the country. But for the not so serious, they offer night classes. On Valentine’s Day, they’re running a special that includes sipping wine, eating chocolate and of course spinning some clay, Demi Moore-style. I can almost hear the Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody” just thinking about it!

Wine and Design Shop

The concept is simple yet brilliant: Drink wine and paint. A little merlot does wonders to get the creative juices flowing (or at least boosts your confidence), don’t ya think?

Where to Stay

To me, a romantic weekend in Asheville is all about bed and breakfasts. Luckily, there are tons of stunning options. Check out Explore Asheville’s roundup of some of the best in town along with a few more unique things to do in Asheville to fill your trip with exciting memories.

  1. Don’t forget Fired Up! Creative Lounge downtown on Wall Street. Bring your wine and paint your own pottery, create glass fused pieces or mosaics. So much fun!
