One of the best times to travel? A Dead Week.

Dead Weeks are that lull in travel after the major holiday rush, and all of January into February is part of that.

My favorite way to figure out one of a destination’s Dead Weeks is to see if they have a Restaurant Week. NYC started this trend all the way back in 1992 and many, many places have followed suit. Not only will you get great restaurant deals, it’s also when flight and hotel costs tend to be at their lowest.

I’ve listed some of them for 2026 above; let me know if you have any to add!

Kevin took inspiration from Blackbeard and the pirate history there and made a new cocktail called "Blackbeard's Haunt" (recipe below)
So shake up a cocktail and join us MONDAY at 9pm ET, January 5th right here on Facebook, Cheers!

"Blackbeard's Haunt"
2 oz white rum
8 blackberries
Fresh mint
.5 oz lime juice
.5 oz lemon juice
.75 oz simple syrup

In cocktail tin muddle blackberries. Once crushed add 4-5 mint leaves and lightly muddle. Then add in rum, lemon/lime juices and simple syrup. Shake with ice and double strain into tall glass with ice. Top with seltzer, garnish with a blackberry and mint sprig and try to remember where you buried your treasure.

First up, today, I'm exploring the charming riverside towns of Mainz and Wiesbaden, and the fairy-tale perfection of Rothenburg in Germany. (Just a warning: prepare your sweet tooth for this one!)

Then on Friday, I'm heading to the Black Hills of South Dakota where adventure takes three forms: above ground, high up, and deep below in ways you won't expect.

This week @createtvchannel is sharing two of my favorite Places to Love episodes with you! First up, on Wednesday, I saw wild horses for the first time at Shackleford Banks on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Did you even know you could see wild horses in the Outer Banks?

Then on Friday, life really is a bowl of cherries in Traverse City, Michigan, and I’ll show you why. From the cherry orchards to the beaches of Lake Michigan, this area provides plenty to enjoy.

Negroni (this one is easy!)
1 oz Gin
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 oz Campari
Stir together with ice and strain into rocks glass with big cube of ice (if possible). Garnish with small slice of orange.

Huka Falls in Taupō, New Zealand dumps 220,000 litres (over 58,000 gallons) of water over an 11-meter (36-foot) cliff every SECOND! Now that's some serious volume.

Winter Solstice might be in a few days but the weather has been absolutely freezing here in NYC.

As someone who loves cold weather travel, I thought it would be a good time to share some tips on what to wear and pack so no one in your group ends up with frostbite.

Tip 1: Get very familiar with merino wool.
