The Perfect Day in Napa Valley

Napa Valley is the center of the universe for wine lovers.

Napa is famous for world-class dining that delivers locally grown, Northern California cuisine that can only be had in this part of the country. Add in the most spectacular wines in the country, beautiful vistas and lovely weather, and poof! Vacation perfection!

So how would I spend the perfect day in Napa Valley?

Waking up to the early morning fog, I’d grab a morning appointment at the Auberge Spa. This 157-acre luxury resort includes a private lake, a gym and hiking trails. Their spa services are incredible. After a massage, I’d relax and enjoy their water ritual, which includes a soak in three temperate springs, overlooking the Napa Valley vineyards.

In the afternoon, I’d take a bicycle tour– the best way to wine-taste your way through the vineyards. Although to be honest, navigating by bike after a few stops and wine samples might not be the easiest thing ever…. but I figure hey, it’s the great outdoors and it’s fun to try! Plus, a little fresh air may be exactly what the doctor ordered. Here’s a few of the places I stopped on a recent trip. I absolutely loved.

Later in the evening, as the sun sets behind the endless acres of vineyards and the lush mountain views, I’d sit outside on the veranda and dream about owning my own winery. Maybe next door to Francis Ford Copolla or Joe Montanta. You know David Beckham bought his wife a winery in Napa for her birthday… maybe my husband is planning to surprise me this year. You just never know.

  1. I love Napa too, but a room at Auberge is almost the cost of that dream vineyard. For the rest of us… Try Calistoga or neighboring wine country Sonoma County. Just as many fine wine choices and great food, but at much more reasonable prices.

  2. Calistoga is my favorite Napa County small town, although, I prefer Sonoma County for the more laid back, authentic wine country experience. Healdsburg and Sebastopol are my favorites.
